The Physical Education Department of Indian School Sohar hosted the CBSE Oman Cluster Badminton Tournament on the 11th and 12th of October 2023. The event took place at the Indian School Sohar Recreation Hall, which has a fabulous synthetic badminton court. A total of 188 boys and girls participated in the U-14, U-17 and U-19 categories, representing twelve Indian Schools in Oman. The tournament was a resounding success, with participants showing great enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
The first-day opening ceremony was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Muhammad Bin Ali Bin Abdulla Al Farsi, Director, Sports and Youth Activities, General Directorate for Culture, Sports and Youth, North Al Batinah Governorate. The occasion was also graced by Mr. Ajay Ganti and Dr. Ragni Vaishnav, members of the School Managing Committee. The Chief Guest officially declared the tournament open on the first day. The second day of the Girls' tournament opening ceremony was graced by Ms. Fatima Al Fazari, Assistant Director, Sports and Youth Activities, General Directorate for Culture, Sports and Youth, North Al Batinah Governorate. The Hilarious characters Mickey and Minnie mascot created a pleasant atmosphere made people happy, and attracted people's attention. The referees Mr. Chandra Shekhar Gosain and Mr. Anwar Sadiq took overall charge of the tournament ensuring that the tournament is conducted in accordance with the Laws of Badminton, the rules and regulations of the BWF and any other regulations pertinent to the specific tournament.
The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, welcomed the Chief Guest and the attendees. In her inspiring speech, she encouraged and motivated the participating teams, emphasizing the importance of upholding the true spirit of sportsmanship. The opening ceremony included some badminton smashes performed by the Chief Guest, Principal, and members of the Managing Committee. The participants embraced the challenge and gave their best efforts when it mattered the most. The players aimed to secure the winner's trophy and enjoyed the warm hospitality provided during the tournament.
During the valedictory ceremony, Principal Sanchita Verma felicitated the shuttlers by awarding medals and trophies to all the winners. She wished them the best of luck for the upcoming CBSE nationals in India. The successful organization and execution of this marvelous tournament were credited to the Physical Education Department, which received congratulations for their efforts in hosting the event.
