History

The Indian School Sohar was founded in 1982 and is managed by the association of members of the Indian business community.

The school is an English medium, co-educational KG-XII institution affiliated with Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and approved by the Ministry of Education, Sultanate of Oman. The school has Science and Commerce stream in classes XI and XII.

The School is intended primarily for the students of Indian nationality and Indian origin. The Indian business community in the year 1982 realised the need for having a school for the Indian community, and founded the school.

The school got the CBSE affiliation for class X on 1st April 1994. The school was then upgraded and got affiliated for class XII in the year 2001.

The school moved to the present building in the year 1995 to accommodate the growing strength of the student population. From then on the school has made great advancement in everything including the infrastructure. From one single room it now has three buildings with three stories and a separate admin block.

It has well equipped Physics laboratory, Chemistry lab, Biology lab, Mathematics lab, Junior Science lab and three Computer Science labs. To promote good reading habits, the school has three libraries. To nurture young artists the school has Art and Craft lab and Music room.

In the academic year 2014 – 15, all the classes were equipped with smart boards with latest interactive, multimedia software to provide students an exposure to the technological advancement and better teaching learning.

Presently, the school is headed by Mrs. Sanchita Verma. The current strength of the school is 3350.

42 new classrooms were added in the year 2014-15 and addition 16 classrooms were constructed in the year 2015-16. A multipurpose auditorium is under construction.
