ANNUAL SPORTS DAY 2015

“The moment of victory is much too short to live for that and nothing else,” said Martina Navratilova, tennis player. Apart from commemorating victories, sports meets also aim at imparting lessons on sportsman spirit and camaraderie to children.  Indian School Sohar conducted its 22nd Annual Sports Day on 29th January 2015 at the Sohar Sports Stadium with great opulence in a frolicsome atmosphere upholding this aspect of sporting events.

In this major event of the school, the four Houses are rewarded for their achievements acquired by individual and team efforts throughout the academic session. Dr. Khalid Rashid Mohammed Al Bulooshi, Deputy Director, Educational Programme Department, Ministry of Education, Sohar graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Ms. Fatma Rashid Al Fazari, Head Women’s Sports, General Directorate of Sports Affairs, Sohar was the dignified Guest of Honour.

The programme started with a welcome note by Ms. Sanchita Verma , the Principal, who then presented the Annual Sports report  enumerating the various achievements of the students. The synchronized, rhythmic and majestic March Past, led by the Council Members and House Captains gave an apposite beginning for the event. The March Past exhibited discipline and hardcore practice of the students. The Torch Relay was held aloft by the Winners of CBSE Oman Cluster Athletic & Swimming Meet, 2014. The Chief Guest declared the meet OPEN soon after the solemn oath administered by the Sports Captain, Vignesh Ram Kumar upholding the dignity of the games and expressing the determination to keep the sportsman spirit alive.  The mascot of the 22nd Annual Athletic Meet, 2015, Appu, the Elephant enhanced the stateliness of the event. The Majestic Appu going round interacting with the thrilled audience was a sight to behold.

The track and field events began with the funny and innovative races like Mummy Race, Balloon Bursting Race, cycle race  etc. held for the students of KG to Std. V created a mesmerizing atmosphere.  The spectacular Aerobics & Mass PT performed by Students of Std. VI to VIII , to the back drop of vibrant music like that of “Vande Mataram” enchanted one and all. These events were characterized by perfect synchronization, fantastic formations and energetic movement. The 100m races and the Mixed Relays evoked such fervor that everyone stood tip toe to witness the winner. The Gymnastics, cycling, skating by the Dare Devil Group brimming with vigour and valour was breath taking.  The Parent Game was the attraction of the day.  It was heartening to see them participating in large numbers with great enthusiasm!

The Sports Meet came to an end with the Prize Distribution. The winners of various inter-school sporting activities and of various races, Individual Champions and the winning Houses were awarded. The Red House was adjudged the overall winner – The Cock House and the Green House emerged Runner Up.  The trophy for March past was lifted by the Yellow House and Red House secured second position. The individual Champions in various categories were Aditya Vinod, Anurag and Greeshma C.S. in Under-14 category, Smbhav Agnihotri and Shanmugapriya in under 16 category and  Vignesh Ramkumar and Priyanka Bobby in under 19 category.  A lively commentary throughout the programme by a team of students kept the audience thoroughly entertained. The day filled with promises for all the young sports enthusiasts ended with a cheerful note with colourful balloons flying sky-high carrying messages of Indo-Oman friendship.
