On the occasion of Earth day 22nd April, Indian School Sohar oraganised a special assembly to commemorate the impact of improper disposal of waste in the environment.

The morning assembly began with the school prayer song followed by a green thought exhorting the students to save mother earth. Other presentations like news, speech and quiz were based on the Earth Day. A mesmerizing nature’s song was performed by the school’s eco-club “Green Gyan” volunteers leaving the teachers and their fellow students spell bound.

On this special occasion, Principal Ms. Sanchita Verma inaugurated the plastic recycle bin and informed the students that plastics are non-biodegradable and any proposed scheme would be ineffective as long as wastes are not disposed properly.

The Green Gyan volunteers attended a seminar on the 14th of April, 2015 in Sohar University on “Effective waste management in schools” and they passed on this knowledge through a presentation depicting different types of plastics and ways for their effective disposal. Speaking on the occaassion student co-ordinator, Green Gyan, Rahul Khatav pledged that he along with his team would do their best to contribute to the environmental preservation and would also motivate his collegues to do so.

To top it all, a special prize was announced for the students of class IX and X for bringing the most plastics the following day which was bagged by Raunak Singh and Raied of class IX.
