NASA SPACE APPS CHALLENGE 2025

27-10-2025

Abhiman Dewangan, a student of Indian School Sohar, participated in the International NASA Space Apps Challenge Hackathon 2025, one of the world’s largest global hackathons organized by NASA. The event brings together innovators, developers, and students from across the globe to create solutions for real-world challenges using open NASA data.

The regional edition of the hackathon was held at Bidiyah by UTAS Ibra, with over 650 participants and 85 teams competing across 18 challenges presented by NASA. Each team was given 48 hours to conceptualize and develop an innovative solution within their chosen domain.

Abhiman’s team, LEOVERSE, chose the challenge “Commercialization of Low Earth Orbit (LEO)” and developed an educational-entertainment web application named LEOVERSE. The platform enables users to understand orbital decision-making and space sustainability through AI-powered insights, including a sustainability index calculator based on predictive analysis, combined with real NASA data and game-based learning logic. It illustrates how mission decisions impact sustainability, cost, and debris formation, offering both structured learning modules and interactive simulations for educators, students, and space enthusiasts.

Among more than 15,000 teams participating globally, Team LEOVERSE received the “Best Use of Art and Technology” award and was nominated for the Global Judging Round, a distinction earned by only 400 teams worldwide.

Abhiman’s outstanding performance at this international event stands as a proud moment for Indian School Sohar, reflecting the school’s strong commitment to fostering innovation, curiosity, and 21st century learning. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, for nurturing an environment that inspires creativity, confidence, and critical thinking among students.

Ms. Sanchita Verma, Principal of Indian School Sohar, congratulated Abhiman on his remarkable achievement and commended his dedication, creativity, and spirit of innovation. She expressed immense pride in his success, noting that such accomplishments exemplify the school’s vision of nurturing globally competent learners who strive for excellence in every field.
