The ‘Arithmetic Operations Using Models’ competition was organised by the Department of Mathematics of Indian School Sohar on 12th October 2026 for students of Classes IV to VI. The aim was to help students see numbers as something they can build, touch and explore, and to encourage them to develop mathematical skills, creativity and logical thinking through innovative models, along with a love of Mathematics.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 117 students in the preliminary round, with 68 students qualifying for the final round. The finalists demonstrated commendable creativity, innovation, and analytical skills. Each participant confidently explained their model, highlighting the mathematical principles involved and their practical applications in real-life situations.
The panel of judges comprised: Ms. Tintu Praful, Ms. Lubna Siddiqui and Mr. Maijo Varghese
The models were judged on content, originality, creativity and presentation. The judges praised the effort and enthusiasm of all participants and encouraged students to keep connecting classroom Mathematics with everyday life.
The event was a resounding success and truly reflected the spirit of experiential learning and innovation. Recognizing the outstanding achievements of the participating students, the Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, the Vice Principal, Mr. Yashvir Singh, and the Assistant Vice Principal and Head of the Mathematics Department, Ms. Indira Sukumaran, expressed their heartfelt commendations.
They also extended their appreciation to the dedicated teachers in charge, Ms. Jinu Raghavan, Ms. Padma K and Ms. Remya K. Mani, for the successful execution of the event.
