A significant highlight in Oman’s school sports calendar unfolded as young cricketers from Indian School Sohar participated in the CBSE Zonal Cricket Selection and Tournament, held from August 9 to August 12, 2026. Hosted by Indian School Muscat, the tournament took place across two venues: the Municipal Cricket Ground and the OC Turf Ground.
The event drew active participation from 12 Indian schools across Oman, demonstrating the growing passion and talent for cricket within the student community. A total of 32 students competed in the rigorous selection process, out of which 17 players were chosen to represent in the zonal tournament. Throughout the event, the young athletes showcased impressive cricketing skills, discipline, and enthusiasm.
At the conclusion of the tournament, four outstanding students - Blessy Vinod Jeeba (U-19 Girls), Yashaswini Jain (U-19 Girls), Shubhrika Singh (U-19 Girls) and Hrishab Raj (U-14 Boys) were selected to represent team Oman at the upcoming CBSE National Cricket Tournament. The national event is scheduled to take place at Kalvi International Public School, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, in October 2026.
The players achieved remarkable success across multiple age divisions during the tournament:
A special achievement came in the U-19 Girls category, where Blessy Vinod Jeeba was awarded the prestigious Best Player of the Tournament trophy for her outstanding performance.
The achievement stands as a testament to the dedicated coaching and mentorship provided to the team. The players were trained under the guidance of the Coach and Head of Department (HOD) for Physical Education, Kamal Prasad Gurung, with assistance from Sachin Ali, Physical Education Teacher.
Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma congratulated the selected students and players for their commendable efforts, hard work, and sportsmanship, wishing them the very best as they prepare to represent their school and Oman on the national stage in India.
