NATIONAL SPORTS DAY CELEBRATION AT INDIAN SCHOOL SOHAR

“Set your goals high and don’t stop till you get there.”

The Physical Education Department of Indian School Sohar celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit on 31 August 2026. The occasion commemorated the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, born on 29 August 1905. His remarkable contribution to Indian hockey and dedication to sports continue to inspire generations.

A floral tribute was paid to Major Dhyan Chand, highlighting his achievements, sportsmanship, dedication, and contribution to Indian sports. An inspiring speech was delivered by the Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, who emphasised the importance of sports in promoting fitness, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and holistic development.

The celebration continued with a vibrant sports programme organised by the Class XI Physical Education students, who set up five stalls featuring fun and recreational games. The activities provided an enjoyable platform for students and staff to participate and showcase their sporting spirit.

The celebrations were further enlivened by Throwball and Tug-of-War competitions. The male teachers emerged victorious in a thrilling Tug-of-War against the Class XII boys. In Throwball, the teachers of Classes III–V emerged as winners, while the teachers of KG–II secured the runners-up position. The Principal, Vice-Principal, Assistant Vice-Principal, HODs, teachers, and students participated enthusiastically in the fun games.

The events created a lively atmosphere and promoted teamwork, coordination, confidence, and healthy competition. The winners and runners-up were felicitated with medals by the Principal in appreciation of their enthusiasm and sporting spirit.
