Indian School Sohar organised a Faculty Development Programme on “Inclusive Education and Special Needs” under the aegis of the Board of Directors (BOD) of Indian Schools in Oman on Saturday, 26 September 2026.

The sessions commenced with an address by the Assistant Vice Principal, Ms. Indira Sukumaran and Vice Principal, Mr. Yashvir Singh respectively, who highlighted the importance of fostering inclusive classrooms where every learner feels valued, supported, and empowered to participate and grow.

The first session for Foundational and Preparatory Stages was facilitated by Ms. Shamita Sebastian Anchan, Inclusive Educator and School Counsellor, Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir and the second session for Middle and Secondary Classes was conducted by Ms. Richu Elin Abraham, School Counsellor, Indian School Muscat. Both the Resource Persons engaged the teachers through practical insights and meaningful discussions on creating inclusive and learner-friendly classrooms.

The sessions focused on the power of observation, the concept of “Maslow before Bloom,” understanding learning disabilities, strengthening parent partnerships, and the role of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) in addressing diverse learning needs. Teachers were encouraged to look beyond academic performance and understand each learner’s strengths, needs, emotions, and learning patterns.

The interactive sessions inspired teachers to embrace empathy, flexibility, and learner-centred practices, reinforcing the belief that every child can learn when given the right support and opportunities.

The session concluded with Vote of Thanks by Dr. Sheenam Samuel, Headmistress. The Resource persons were felicitated by Assistant vice Principal, Ms Indira Sukumaran and Vice Principal, Mr. Yashvir Singh, as a token of appreciation and gratitude for their valuable guidance and insights.

The programme was a meaningful and enriching professional learning experience, strengthening teachers’ commitment to building classrooms where every learner is valued, supported, and included.
