WASTE BATTERY CAMPAIGN

16-03-2016

Depositing batteries in landfill is harmful to the environment, and to us. As the batteries break down, they can leak heavy metals and toxic chemicals, causing soil contamination and water pollution.

To create awareness among students, the “Green Gyan” Eco Club of the school organized Waste Battery Campaign from 18th January 2016 to 29th February 2016. Mr. Kamal Gurung and Ms.Asha Mohan, the coordinators along with the class teachers motivated and educated students on the safe and sustainable disposal of waste batteries.

It was wonderful that many children and teachers enthusiastically participated in the Waste Battery Campaign. This campaign gave children, parents and schools the opportunity to make a real difference to the environment of the host country.

The volunteers and teachers made a poster using collected cells which espoused the motto “Safe Battery Disposal, Green Gyan, ISS”. Students of Std. III to IX collected 240 Kg batteries. Std. IV A won the first position with a collection of 24.4 Kgs and Std.VII B won the second position by collecting 13.6Kgs. Principal, Sanchita Verma appreciated the efforts taken by the staff and students who enabled this campaign to be a huge success and for keeping the environment safe and clean. She also encouraged them to continue saving our planet earth by safe disposal of batteries.
