NATIONAL UNITY DAY CELEBRATION

20-11-2016

In line with the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) celebrations countrywide to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Indian School Sohar organized a special assembly along with other activities. The purpose was to extend a heartfelt appreciation for the veritable contribution of the “Iron Man of India” to lay a foundation to a unified country with a spirit of oneness and to infuse the young future generation with the knowledge about the country’s rich heritage.

Soon after the prayer song invoking the blessing of God for a peaceful world and a peaceful life, children listened to a beautiful quote of Sardar Patel: “Faith is of no avail in the absence of strength; faith and strength both are essential to accomplish any great work.” They witnessed the floral tribute to the portrait of Sardar Patel by the Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma, to mark his 141st birthday with a sense of pride in the motherland and its unity. J Shravan of Std. IX D in his impressive speech gave a bird’s eye view of the life of Patel, his Herculean task, as the first Home Minister of India, of unifying the princely states of free India into an integrated Democratic Republic, his role in establishing a harmonious society and of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project, his tribute to Sardar Patel, “The Statue of Unity” that will make our country shine at the zenith of glory as one nation, one culture, and one people, which was the dream of Sardar Patel for India. The quiz included questions that scanned the life and achievements of the great leader.

The Principal, in her message, reminded that the speciality of our country is unity in diversity and as Indians abroad such occasions give us an opportunity to celebrate our diversity with a feeling of unity. She inspired the students to learn different traditions and cultures of India from each other and encouraged the students to pursue the optional subject Knowledge, Traditions and Practices of India which would enable them to learn and appreciate the diverse cultures.

Besides the Special Assembly, The Documentary on Sardar Patel, “Man of Silence”, provided students of Std. VI to VIII an opportunity to witness the life and works of Sardar Patel. On the whole, the celebrations enabled the students to re-affirm “the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of our country”.
