INTER- HOUSE ENGLISH DEBATE CONTEST (IX-XII)

Indian School Sohar has set the benchmark for conducting activities in such a way that the students not only enjoy but also learn a great deal from it. With the same perspective in view, the Inter-House English Debate competition for classes IX-XII was held on 18th  October 2018. The event was held in the First floor Hall, D. Block and was graced with the presence of Dr. Vinu Kumar, the Vice-Principal. Mrs. Divya Johari, the Head of English Department, welcomed the judges and the participants. Ms. Suriya Mariselvan and Master. Mukund Vegi (XI) anchored the competition.

 The topic chosen for the day was ‘Talent is more Important than Hard work.’ The speakers from various houses debuted for the motion and some against the motion. The rebuttal sessions made the debate interesting and entertaining. All the teams exhibited great oratorical skills. They put in tremendous hard work to showcase their talent. The debaters displayed confidence in presenting their arguments before audience and a panel of eminent Jury, Mrs. Divya Johari, Mrs. Nazneen and Mr. Brendon Lee.

The winners of the competition are:

Group I :-

First Position – Yellow House - Pranjal Gupta, Dimpi

Second Position – Blue House - Zeba Shaikh, Shadman Siddique

Third Position – Red House - Navami Sajeev, Anshika Yadav

Best Speaker & Best Rebuttal - Pranjal Gupta

 

Group II :-

First Position – Red House - Rahul Khatav, Fiza Faisal

Second Position – Blue House - Mahi Mishra, Kritika Sethi

Third Position – Yellow House - Pooja Rajmohan, Saumya

Best Speaker & Best Rebuttal - Mahi Mishra

 

It is said: “You can sway a thousand men by appealing to their prejudices quicker than you can convince one man by logic.” This is what the audience witnessed. Debate, as an academic activity provided students creative room to express what they felt gaining unparalled knowledge.
