GRANDEUR MARKS THE ANNUAL SPORTS DAY OF INDIAN SCHOOL SOHAR

Indian School Sohar held its 21st Annual Sports Day on 4th January, 2014 at the Sohar Sports Stadium amid much grandeur. It is one of the major events of the school, which rewards the four houses for their team efforts in various competitions organised throughout the academic year.

 Mr. Ali Bin Suleaiman Bin Ali Al Dabdoob, Director of Complexes and Sports Centres, Directorate General of Sports Affairs Northern Batinah graced the occasion as the Chief Guest . Principal, Vice Principal welcomed the chief guest along with the members of the School Managing Committee. 

The day started with a formal welcome speech by the Principal Sanchita Verma. She presented the Annual Sports Report enumerating the various achievements of the students.

The students presented a synchronized and rhythmic march past led by the members of the council and their house captains.

 The symbolic torch, held aloft by the individual champions of the previous sports meet, circled the arena and was finally handed over to the honorable chief guest, who then declared the meet open.

 A solemn oath to uphold the dignity of the games and keep the spirit of sportsmanship alive throughout the meet was administered by the Sports Captain Mehlam Mahir.

The highlight of the event was the impressive mascot of the 21st Annual Sports Day- Asad, the lion. The beautiful mascot was a remarkable sight and the audience was happy and excited to interact with it.

Tiny tots of Kindergarten, class I and II paraded donning the colorful costumes of clown and their favourite cartoon characters.

Young students from KG to class V took part in the funny and innovative races like Crack the Egg, Bell the Cat, etc.

The audience was filled in with awe and wonder by the colorful and rhythmic ball and Pompom drills performed by the students of classes IV to VII, to the backdrop of vibrant music. All the drills clearly highlighted excellent precision, formation, synchronization and movement.

The message of long live Indo Oman friendship was taken to the sky.

The 100 m races for boys and girls, 4 x 100 m mixed relay for all categories evoked a lot of passion and fervor among all the house members and the audience. The showmanship of the entire display was acknowledged with reels of applause.

A special game was organized for the parents. They took part in large numbers and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. This effort was highly appreciated by all.

Finally the Sports Meet came to an end with prize distribution ceremony and declaring of the house positions and individual champions. The Blue house was adjudged as the over all winner i.e., the Cock House followed by the Yellow house as the Runners up.

The March Past trophy was lifted by the Blue house followed by the Yellow house in the second place.

The individual champions in the different categories were Under-14 category Sambhav Agnihotri and Maria Ann John, Under -16 category Clement Davis and Harsha Prakash, Under-19 Category Chris Wilden Karkada and Priyanka Booby.

Gold coins were awarded to all the CBSE Oman Cluster level winners.

Bhumika Mishra, Sports Captain presented the vote of thanks.

Mr. Meghji H. Bhadra, Treasurer and Mr. Lalit Asher, Member of the School Managing Committee presented a memento to the Chief Guest.

The event was a huge success due to the sportsman spirit displayed by all the students, untiring efforts of the staff and the motivating and applauding audience, who had gathered in large numbers. It will remain etched in the minds of all those who witnessed it for a long time to come.

The dusk was made bright by the lit up lanterns.
