JOY OF READING

‘Books are the quietest and the most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers’.

                                                                                                                          - Charles William Eliot

April is the reading month. The Indian School Sohar library celebrated Joy of Reading as an initiative to revive the dying habit of reading among the young minds. The DEAR TIME (DROP EVERYTHING AND READ) was observed from 28th to 30th April 2019 in the school.  During these three days classes I-VIII devoted their ten minutes of the first period in pleasure reading. Students and the teachers dropped their normal routine work and dedicated the time for reading. A child’s reading skills are important to their success as they improve their communication and language skills. Keeping this in mind, Buddy Reading Programme was also initiated in which students of class V narrated stories to class II students.

A special assembly was also conducted by the students of class V D on 28th April 2019 in Indian School Sohar with the same objective. The assembly started with the prayer song which was followed by the thought for the day, news headlines and a poem in Hindi. The major attraction of the assembly was the amazing action song by our diligent students. The principal Mrs. Sanchita Verma addressed the assembly and rewarded the certificates and the medals to the winners of International Mathematics Olympiad (2018-19). The assembly concluded with the National Anthem.
