The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29th August every year to mark the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, ‘The Wizard of Hockey’ regarded as the greatest field hockey player of all time. Indian School Sohar celebrated it in full fervour as it was Major Dhyan Chand’s 115th birth anniversary this year.
An E-Sports Quiz Competition for the students of classes VI – XII was held on 30th August 2020 on the virtual platform, coordinated by Mr. Kuldeep Singh. All the participants showcased their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions. They displayed a commendable level of awareness and knowledge and gave each other a tough fight for the top honors. Sixteen students in the senior category (IX to XII) and twenty-five students in the junior category (VI to VIII) scored 90% & above. Jeet Hiren Kumar Dekivadia (IX A), Sahana (VIII E), Aditi Varshney (VIII E), Anushka Pandey (VIII A) and A. S. Sushanthika (VIII E) scored full 100%. The winners of the Quiz will be honoured with E- Certificates.
To familiarise the students of classes I–V with Major Dhyan Chand and his achievements, they were shown a power point presentation. Consequently, the students got to know a lot about the Hockey Wizard.
The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma offered a floral tribute to the portrait of Major Dhyan Chand to pay respect and appreciated the Physical Education Department for conducting such a memorable event.
