ONAM, A CELEBRATION OF HUMANITY AND EQUALITY

21-08-2021

The cultural features of any region can be seen in their festivities. Onam, an important festival that reflects Kerala's historical and cultural heritage, is celebrated with great pomp and grandeur, cutting across all the barriers. It is the traditional ten-day harvest festival that marks the homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali. The pandemic has changed the very nature of Onam celebrations, but it has not lowered the spirit of this festival.

This year's Onam celebration of Indian School Sohar was held on a virtual platform on Thursday, August 19, 2021. It was celebrated by the children of classes LKG to XII by organizing a plethora of virtual events that provided warmth and beauty to culture and heritage from the security of their homes.  The Onam celebrations, in which the teachers and students actively participated, gave a new impetus to the students. During the celebration, the children effectively presented the main features of the festival such as Thiruvathirakali, Pulikali, Vellam Kali or traditional boat races etc. with the aid of PowerPoint presentations. The heritage, culture, food, clothing and message of Onam were beautifully shown through the videos.

The celebration of Onam, which showcases the cultural heritage of Kerala as a symbol of equality and prosperity, was well coordinated by the Supervisors of various sections under the able - guidance of Ms. Sanchita Verma, the Principal, who wished the students and the staff members a prosperous and happy Onam and advised the students to enjoy the festival by maintaining the norms of the time.

Life becomes a festival when gaiety and culture blend. The festival of Onam delivers the message of both!
