INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY

21-02-2022

"Mother Language is Always an Asset."

Indian School Sohar observed the International Mother Language Day on 21st February 2022.  This day is celebrated to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. International Mother Language Day recognizes that languages and multilingualism can advance inclusion, and the Sustainable Development Goals focus on leaving no one behind.

The Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma reiterated the message that International Mother Language Day is a reminder how languages empower us, connect us and help us to communicate our feelings to others.

The theme of the 2022 International Mother Language Day, “Using technology for multilingual learning: Challenges and opportunities”, was highlighted by the principal. She also laid stress on the fact that technology can provide new tools to preserve linguistic diversity.

The principal beautifully summed up the celebration by quoting the words of Nelson Mandela, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to a man in 'his' Mother Language that goes to his heart." Such is the impact of Mother Language!

If children have a strong hold on their mother tongue, it is easier for them to learn new language(s).

A few students of the school delivered valuable speeches focusing on the significance of their mother language. They delightfully  expressed  their views and ideas in their respective mother languages like Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Gujarati, Odia, Telegu, Arabic, Tamil, Bengali and English. They also brought out the creative side by singing songs praising their language.

Our mother language is what gives us an identity and we must always be proud of it.
