INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY 2022 CELEBRATION

16-09-2022

“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is a tool for daily life in modern society.  Literacy is the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential.”. Understanding this, UNESCO declared 8 September as Literacy Day in the year 1966 and since then International Literacy Day is celebrated annually around the world. This year International Literacy Day (ILD) 2022 was celebrated under the theme “Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces”.

Indian School Sohar celebrated International Literacy Day on Sept. 11, 2022, with the purpose of creating awareness about the importance of literacy. The Special Class Assembly was organized under the headship of the English Department.

To ensure the participation of students each class nominated students to present a thought for the day, speech and anchoring. The English Department provided a video for the occasion. It included Discussion-Ted Talks by Aman Saji and Zynah Ashraf, Downpours of Wisdom- The Educators Speak by students from Std VIII to X, Motivational song by Std XI, Paint Smash by students of Std. VI to VIII and Quiz by Rohan Suchitran.  The video programme was anchored wonderfully by Swati Rajesh. The students expressed gratitude to the Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma, Vice-Principal, Mr. Y. Singh, and HOD (English), Mrs. Divya Johari for this great opportunity. The programme inspired children to be propagators of literacy.

“You may have tangible wealth untold; caskets of jewels and coffers of gold. Richer than I you can never be. I had a mother who read to me”, said Strickland Gillilan. The celebration truly enabled the children to realize that they are the luckiest as they are amassing the greatest wealth, that is education.
