SCIENCE EXTEMPORE COMPETITION FOR CLASS V

‘Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world’ – Louis Pasture.

The goal of Science is to investigate and understand nature and use those explanations to make useful predictions. To motivate and train young scientists to be excellent readers, good listeners and confident speakers, the Science Department of Indian School Sohar, organized a Science Extempore Competition for Class V on 24th November 2022 under the mentorship of Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma and Supervisor, Ms. Alka Singh.

The competition was an opportunity to test students’ scientific knowledgeand also to showcase their oratory skills. The preliminary round was conducted on 17th November 2022 by the respective Science teachers.

The competition commenced with morning prayer. The Section Supervisor, Ms. Alka Singh extended a warm welcome to the judges and the audience and presented a brief introduction of the judges. Dr. Bini Das, HOD Science also graced the occasion and motivated the students with her inspiring words.

Students chose the topics on the spot by random picking of the chits, and expressed their views on the topic for 2 minutes.

Participants were judged on the basis of relevance of content to the topic, presentation and confidence.

Judges for the competition were Mr. Sajan John, Ms. Infenta Christy, and Mr. Jayasankar Thampi.

The event was coordinated by in-charge Ms. Reema Singh along with all Science teachers.

The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, and the Section Supervisor, Ms. Alka Singh congratulated the winners and appreciated them for their excellent performances.Teachers of Science department were also lauded for their effort, planning and teamwork.The competition was an effort tomotivate students for extra reading, developing scientific thinking, aptitude and to develop excellent oratory skills.

Students speeches were an enriching experience and were tough to rank. Amidst the tough competitors, the participants who bagged the first three positions are:

First position – Azba Rangunwala – VD

Second position – Shivani Sunil – VC

Third position –  Shrijita Pal –  V C

The program concluded by vote of thanks proposed by the competition in-charge Ms. Reema Singh.
